The honest limitation of any wake window calculator

Age ranges are averages. Your baby's real ideal window depends on how long the last nap was, how many naps they've had today, what time it is, and where they are in a sleep regression. That's why two babies of the same age can have wake windows that differ by 45 minutes or more.

Nestling's AI nap predictor does this calculation continuously from your baby's actual sleep logs — so the predicted window adapts to your baby instead of the average baby, and updates after every nap automatically.

Nap Schedule & Wake Window FAQ

    What is a wake window?

A wake window is the amount of time your baby can comfortably stay awake between sleeps, including feeding time. Staying within it helps your baby fall asleep faster and sleep longer — too long awake leads to an overtired baby who actually fights sleep.

How accurate is a wake window calculator?

Age-based wake windows are a starting range, not a rule — every baby is different, and the right window also shifts with how long the last nap was and the time of day. Use the range together with your baby's sleepy cues (yawning, zoning out, fussiness). An app that learns from your baby's actual sleep logs will outperform any age-average calculator within a week or two of data.

Do wake windows include feeding time?

Yes. The wake window starts the moment your baby wakes up and ends when they fall asleep again — feeds, diaper changes, and play all count toward it.

Should I wake my baby to protect the next wake window?

Usually only to protect night sleep (for example, capping a late-afternoon nap). For most naps, let your baby finish sleeping and simply restart the wake window from when they wake. Ask your pediatrician about waking for feeds in the newborn weeks.

Does this schedule learn from my baby's actual naps?

No — this free web tool uses age-band averages plus the single wake time you enter. It can't see your baby's history the way the Nestling app can, so it won't infer bedtime or wake time from real logs. The Nestling app's nap predictor recalculates continuously from your baby's actual sleep data instead of an average baby.
