Contraction timer apps for iPhone: six apps compared

This page is written by the makers of Contraction Timer by Nestling, which is one of the six apps below, so read it as a comparison by an interested party. We have not run lab tests on any of these apps and we do not rank them.

Every fact about the other five apps comes from its own App Store listing in the United States storefront, read on 23 September 2026: the in-app purchases and Apple Watch compatibility the App Store shows, the age-rating details, the rating count, and what the developer's own description says. Where a listing does not say something, we say so instead of guessing. Prices and features change; the App Store listing is authoritative.

What all six have in common

All six are free to download, and all six describe starting and stopping a contraction with a single tap and then working out durations and intervals for you. Where they differ is in how they make money (ads, one-time purchases or a subscription), whether there is an Apple Watch app, and what else is bundled in.

Completely free: no paywall, no ads, no subscription, and no account required. The App Store lists no in-app purchases for it.

Start the session and the first contraction in the iPhone app or with a tap on Apple Watch. Once the session and Live Activity are active, the Lock Screen gives a read-only glance plus one-tap Start or End while the iPhone stays locked, without reopening the app.

A 5-1-1 timing-pattern summary, CSV and PDF export, and a partner share you can revoke. When your baby arrives it can hand off into Nestling, our baby tracker.

Available in 44 languages, including German and Portuguese.

    What it does not do

    • It is a contraction timer only: there is no kick counter, weight tracker or hospital bag checklist.
    • It is new, so it has far fewer App Store ratings than the long-established apps on this page.
